We have decided to pick the area around the UN complex.

These were the communal observations from our 1.5 hour site visit:

strange environment
there is lots of stuff happening inside but from the outside nothing is visible
spot in front of the UN – big lights, cameras strange architecture
what is the function of this spot

people in the UN want to destroy the chair

trip with motorbike, filming, strange places old factories, buildings bio tech building, chemistry

closed buildings

mix
united nation of health, pharmaceutical buildings

lots of contrast, 5 minutes arrive in small town Voltaire castles
dilapidated buildings close by
there is no life
people that are working in the street

workmen in the street

people who are coming to work. people who know nothing about geneva

international school
kindergarden
windows covered in childrens drawings, contrasts with building

space, proximity, relationships

international ghetto

private clubs

where do the internationals live?

they work in the week, and then go away

4th july, lots of american people here
but when you go out on normal weeked you don’t see them
is it a cliche?
how can you tell if they are using geneva normally?

lonely in geneva

rich cultural – biggest budget for culture in europe
nobody goes to exhibitions or events

people are cold on first contact

concentration of official buildings

building really seperated

WIPO internationl building

the UN cluster is close to the centre
there are people living here

semi-public spaces
cafe’s and restaurants

open the area for security resons
normally the streets are much more closed

not friendly place
you are the wrong person in the wrong place

the seating is alumninium you don’t want to sit there

the space is a purpose built for demonstrations

kids play there in summer

in 5 minutes you can be in the forest

car place

its beautiful for the people inside the UN compound
park is closed

power: people, building, security

what are these people thinking?
what is their motivation?
ambition, job
know the
what

are all the people who come out representative?

he talked as we

secuirty are the mediators between the street and inside

find out the stories that triggered things

hardly anybody speaks english

UN here in geneva – opportunity for diplomats to meet the bankers

geneva is only a fake important place – its not as important as before

UN decision are not take here

look at the functionality of this are

national vs international very odd
what about class?

they don’t pay tax
